Ambulances 2,000-Mile Journey from Omaha to Xalapa

A ceremony will take place at the Durham Museum beginning at 11:00 AM on May 24th to mark the gifting of the ambulances and equipment to Xalapa, Mexico. Union Pacific and Kansas City Southern de Mexico are providing the logistics and transportation free-of-charge for the over 2000-mile rail journey from Omaha to Xalapa.

Miles Traveled: 2,000

The ambulances will travel nearly 2,000 miles
by rail between Omaha and Xalapa. Union
Pacific and Kansas City Southern de Mexico
are donating the transportation service and
coordinating all rail-related logistics.

Ambulances  Donated: 4

Four ambulances will be provided to the City
of Xalapa from its sister city, Omaha, and the
Omaha Fire Department.

Emergency Equipment Donated: 7

Seven Hurst Extrication Tools, also known
as “Jaws of Life,” and several Self Contained
Breathing Apparatus (SCBAs), also will journey
in the ambulances and rail cars to Xalapa.

Rail Cars: 2                                                          

Two uni-level rail cars, specially modified to
transport vehicles of this size, will each carry
two ambulances.
