Second Lady Karen Pence Delivers Annual Gala Keynote
Karen Pence, the wife of Vice President Mike Pence, attended the Omaha Sister Cities Association Global Gala 2018 the organization’s annual meeting and fundraiser April 15th. She delivered the evening’s keynote address at the Milo Bail Student Center on the campus of the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO).
Mrs. Pence serves as honorary vice chairwoman for Sister Cities International (SCI), where she helps champion the cause of the everyday citizen diplomat and advance progress toward world peace. Pence was honored in March 2017 with SCI’s Diplomatic Leadership Award and recently visited Japan to celebrate the sister city relationship between Chiba City and Houston, Texas.
Other noteworthy guests who attended the Gala included: Roger-Mark De Souza, SCI president and CEO; Dr. Pedro Hipolito Rodriguez Herrero, mayor of Xalapa, Mexico; Mike Foley, Nebraska lieutenant governor; and Jean Stothert, mayor of Omaha.
“We’re were all honored and excited to have such a distinguished slate of guests attend the Global Gala,” said OSCA Board President Rob Hodson. “The evening was great celebration of all the progress our association has made in the community and in our sister cities around the world.”
The Omaha Sister Cities Association is dedicated to enhancing our community’s global awareness through cultural, educational, humanitarian and economic development connections. OSCA brings like-minded people from around the world to Omaha to develop cross-cultural relationships with Omaha’s citizens through youth exchanges, family homestay and cultural events. OSCA currently has six sister cities: Shizuoka, Japan; Braunschweig, Germany; Siauliai, Lithuania; Naas, Ireland; Xalapa, Mexico; and Yantai, China.
